Dealership Sold: Village Dodge in Hudson, NY

Nancy Phillips Associates is pleased to announce the sale of Village Dodge owned by Peter Backlund and Stacey Gallagher Sold to Chris Buonanno and Ilya Shnayder.

Village Dodge has been in the Backlund family since 1972. After 51 years it has been sold by brother and sister team Peter Backlund and Stacey Gallagher. The dealership is now called Orchard Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.

Chris Buonanno who was prior owner of his family's Mercedes Benz dealership in Westchester County will be the Dealer Principal of Orchard CDJR. The day-to-day operations will be spearheaded by Mark Brown the General Manager. Ilya Shnayder is a partner in this dealership and Maverick Motor Group which has several locations throughout New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Bailey Ford in Malone, NY Sold to Douglas Gilmour.

Nancy Phillips Associates is pleased to announce the sale of Bailey Ford in Malone, NY to Douglas Gilmour.

The Bailey family have been operating Bailey Ford Malone for over 40 years. In the spring of 2022, Stephen Bailey and his son Andrew Bailey opened a second Bailey Ford location in Plattsburgh, NY. The sale of their Malone location will allow Steve to semi-retire, and Andrew to focus on the Plattsburgh store and continue to grow that location.

The acquisition of Bailey Ford Malone will be Doug Gilmour's first dealership. Gilmour, a Vermont native, and former dealership operator came to us from his most recent position at Ford Motor Company where he has worked since 2004.

The new dealership is called Malone Ford.

Nancy Phillips Associates is pleased to announce the sale of Parker Chevrolet in Champlain, NY to Brian Hoar of Goss Dodge Chrysler Ram and Goss Jeep in Burlington, VT.

Brothers Rolla Parker and Tim Parker moved from Middlebury, VT and opened the doors of Parker Chevrolet in 1994. Since taking over in Champlain, they have grown their business to be a leader in sales and customer satisfaction. Rolla has kept the North Country in tears with his hysterical commercials starring none other than himself and his son Rolla Jr.. Rolla is moving on to enjoy his retirement and his grandchildren while Tim Parker will be staying on as General Manager of the new dealership, Goss Chevrolet. Rolla’s daughter Beth is staying on as the parts manager while his son Rolla Jr., works on the sales floor.

“The Parker family is still there, and all the employees stayed as well. The new owner’s philosophy, and my philosophy were very similar, so it was a good marriage between the two businesses,” Rolla said.

Brian Hoar is the second generation of his family to lead Goss Dodge Chrysler Ram in Burlington, VT, which his father purchased in 1979 and is the number one selling Ram dealership in New England. Nancy Phillips Associates previously worked with Hoar on his acquisition of Goss Jeep in Burlington, VT in 2019. Hoar's most recent acquisition, Parker Chevrolet, will now be known as Goss Chevrolet.

Over the past couple years Hoar had been working with Nancy Phillips Associates to find another location and knew immediately that the New York location was the right spot. “It didn’t take me more than one visit and one conversation with the Parker brothers to decide this was the one,” he said. “It’s a beautiful facility and a high performing store, but the team is the most important part. They have a really good team here.”

Knight Buick GMC Sold to Canadian Dealers

Nancy Phillips Associates is pleased to announce the sale of Knight Buick GMC to Annie Brennan, Shea Brennan and Robert Toner. The Buyers operate several dealerships in Eastern Canada and this is their first acquisition Stateside. Annie and Shea Brennan have re-located to Plattsburgh to immerse themselves in the community and in their new dealership. Rich Knight will continue expanding his real estate holdings and other investments in the Plattsburgh area. The new name of the dealership is Brennan Buick GMC.

Bill Rapp Auto Group Acquires Mort Backus & Sons, Ogdensburg, NY

Nancy Phillips Associates is pleased to announce the sale of Mort Backus & Sons Chevrolet Buick to Bill Rapp Auto Group.

Mort Backus & Sons was started by Mort and Marie Backus more than 70 years ago. Marie worked at the dealership while raising four sons who went on to grow the business into the highly successful dealership it is today. The Backus brothers, Jack, Pat, Mike and Paul - who are now all over age 60 themselves - have worked together successfully under one roof throughout their long automotive careers. 

It was with great care and discretion that the Backus family choose a successor for their dealership.  Working closely with Nancy Phillips Associates, they were able to select a purchaser who they believe will carry on their tradition of the highest level of customer service and investment in the local community.  The dealership’s new owner is Brian Rapp of Syracuse, New York.  Brian is a third-generation member of a family that has enjoyed great success in the auto industry starting with his grandfather, Bill Rapp Senior and his father Bruce.  The Rapp family owns several New York dealerships including both General Motors and Subaru franchises. This acquisition represents the addition of their fourth dealership.
